Education required for the computer systems analyst:
Most positions for computer systems analyst require at least a bachelor’s degree, and for more complex jobs, a graduate degree. Employers are looking for at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information science, or management information systems (MIS).There many different types of jobs for the computer system analyst, and employers are looking for expertise which is relevant to the job. This expertise may be gained through formal education or job experience. But in almost all cases, a degree is required if you want to obtain a position as a computer systems analyst.
For those candidates who are seeking employment in the business sector, employers are more frequently looking for individuals who have a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) with a concentration in information systems. If you are seeking a position in a technical or scientific environment, employers are seeking individuals with at least a bachelor’s degree in a technical field, such as computer science, information science, applied mathematics, engineering, or the physical sciences.
The most highly qualified candidate for a computer systems analyst position would have a computer science, information science, or management information systems degree, with additional experience or formal education relevant to the specific area in which you want to work. For example, If you want to obtain a computer system analyst position in the banking sector, the employer prefers a candidate who has a computer science, information science, or MIS degree coupled with relevant finance experience. If you want to obtain a computer system analyst position in a hospital, the employer would look for a similar degree but with additional experience in health management.
In should be noted that computer systems analyst who have formal education or experience in network security are currently in high demand due to the increase use of networks and the growing threat to these networks.
Job outlook for the computer systems analyst:
The job outlook looks very good for the computer systems analyst. Employment for the computer systems analyst is expected to grow around 29% between 2006 and 2016. This growth rate is much faster then that which is seen in most other occupations. During the projected period of 2006 to 2016, 146,000 new jobs are expected to arise.

Since most organizations rely on computers to conduct business, and there seems to always be a better way in which a business can be run more effectively, coupled with the continual need to incorporate new technologies, this means the skill of computer systems analyst will continue to be in high demand. Therefore, job security is considered good for this profession. A computer system analyst pay is within the range of many computer professionals. The best candidate for the computer system analyst position is one who has the appropriate degree in computer science, information systems, or MIS and who concomitantly has relevant experience in the area in which he or she would like to work.
